Interesting Facts of October 15th
- On October 15, 1997, the Cassini probe was launched by NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Italian Space Agency to study the planet Saturn and its system, including its rings and natural satellites. The spacecraft entered orbit around Saturn on July 1, 2004, after nearly a seven-year journey.
- October 15th marks the feast day of Saint Teresa of Ávila, a prominent Spanish mystic, Roman Catholic saint, and Carmelite nun who lived from 1515 to 1582. She is also considered a patron saint of headache sufferers and Spanish Catholic writers.
- In 2003, China launched Shenzhou 5, its first manned space mission, on October 15. Astronaut Yang Liwei became the first Chinese person to orbit the Earth, marking a significant milestone in the Chinese space program.
